Accuracy check # 2 for 3D series
Accuracy Check #2 - Procedure for checking MicroScribe G2 joint encoders
|

|
Step 1: You must FIRST obtain the diagnostic software (MSTest) in order to run this accuracy check. Press here to download. Connect the MicroScibe cables to your computer. Make sure it is in the "home" position, as shown. Please note: For each of the following steps the only encoder values that need to match are those highlighted with gray stripes. |

Rotate the base joint CLOCKWISE until it STOPS- Hold it there and and press the "Home" button on the back panel. Start MSTest and select the proper port. Click the Connect button in MSTest Again, holding the MicroScribe against the clockwise stop (as shown), look at the angles as displayed by MSTest. Shoulder Yaw should read 0 degrees (or 360 degrees) |

| Step 3:
Rotate the Base Joint completely COUNTER CLOCKWISE (until it stops). Shoulder Yaw should now read (approximately) 330 degrees. |

| Step 4:
Rotate the base joint so that the elbow points to your right (the big black circle on the shoulder joint should be facing you.) Remove the stylus from the holder - keep the counterweight against the bottom of the stylus holder and "open" the elbow joint until both arm segments form a straight line. Allow the wrist pitch joint to collapse completely, making sure the stylus remains ABOVE the lower arm segment; rotate the Wrist Roll joint if necessary to maintain this position.

| Step 5:
Hold the wrist assembly in one hand; with the other hand, grab the stylus and move it in an arc from left to right until it stops. Wrist Pitch should now read approx. 60 degrees.(Elbow and Shoulder Pitch angles unchanged) |

| Step 6:
Keeping the counterweight against the bottom of the stylus holder, close the elbow joint until it stops against itself. At the same time, open the Wrist Pitch joint, allowing the stylus shaft to rest against the top front edge of the stylus holder. Apply a slight upward pressure to the counterweight to make sure it is in contact with the bottom of the stylus holder.

| Step 7:
Grasp the stylus tip and pull it directly to the left, trying to reach as far as possible. When the Shoulder Joint housing rests against the top of the stylus holder (pointing toward the left), lower the wrist assembly, resting it against the desktop. Apply a slight downward pressure on the upper arm segment to make sure it is in contact with the top of the stylus holder. Shoulder Pitch should now read approx. 2 degrees. |

| Step 8:
Place the MicroScribe back in the "Home" position. Using one hand to apply a slight upward pressure to the counterweight (to ensure continued contact between it and the stylus holder), use the other hand to grasp the Wrist assembly. Draw the wrist assembly straight upward, opening the elbow joint (and drawing the stylus tip out of its holder) until the lower arm segment is parallel to the desktop. Maintaining this orientation, rotate the wrist roll joint until the stylus points directly up (perpendicular to the desktop) instead of directly down. Wrist Roll should now read approx. 180 degrees. |
